Basics Over & Over

Allowing yourself to learn, and relearn, and refreshing yourself is a good thing.

I know for myself personally I never want to get to a point that I am not learning. I always progress in some way.

I also want to share my experiences and knowledge with others because seeing someone else learn is so much fun.

Eventually I will get to a color grading Blog, I have said it in the last two or three I have just shelved it, many reasons but mostly being back at work on days. It is hard to type these out with more thought and care when working. So much on a daily bases trying to get used to and learn on top of long drives I just want to give each thing I do my 100% effort, so it is coming but I won’t rush it.

until then here I can focus on basic things I do to help keep my mind clear and thinking.

I owned and operated my Sony A7RIII (A7R3) for one entire year. Before I was rocking the Sony a5100, with a manual lens I will find the info on and add in. This was seriously a $40 manual lens at the time.

Lens: Tycka 25mm f/1.8 Wide Angle MF Lens

Camera Body: Sony a5100

I will post sample photos below.

This was a very cheap manual lens, a camera body from 2014, I wanted to use a lower budget Sony setup when switching from Canon before making my mind up to stay and invest or go back to Canon. Clearly I chose to stay ( for now) and after 2 years shooting with the a5100 and learning the basics and interface I finally invested into Sony.

I think learning the basics of your camera over and over is good. Going through your settings, follow a YouTube video and see if their setup works for you, make changes you want to see. Make things difficult on yourself by challenging yourself.

Take a day and only shoot in jpeg and not RAW, see how that does for you on really watching your exposure. Learn your camera and all the meters to the fullest. Get an app on your phone for light metering and play around with it to make sure you expose correctly, or correctly for you.

It’s ok to mess up, as long as you correct it in the future. I had an issue for a while with over exposing. I wouldn’t pay enough attention to the entire screen and would think oh it is RAW I will just fix it later, it affected the quality without me realizing. This is something that should be basic knowledge and I was not doing it correctly. Basics over and over and over. Practicing common things, with exposure learning your cameras limits sometimes something as simple as using lower screen brightness can help so much.

I am rambling so much and I apologize, I feel I did not touch on anything other than exposure, I am very sleepy and really wanted to post something. I think this is more for a me reminder. I have spent hours digging through my camera settings time and time again, or going on shoots running different settings. Having these things in mind are really helpful.

One last thing is the Sony a7RIII has color profiles where I can customize and turn the screen Black & White which when shooting in RAW does not affect the RAW image, but will affect only the screen. I think this would be fun to shoot in and see the Color and Exposure results when going to edit. I am not an expert, I am not a professional. I have just been testing and challenging myself for a very long time and I think sharing that is amazing. It is so much fun.

One day I will start a Blog with intentions of what to type and stick to an order. Until then, thank you for you patience.
